One of the main elements that makes Christmas in Spain so special–the food of course! Just as Americans enjoy gingerbread cookies, seasoned popcorn, candy canes, and fudge, Spaniards have delicious treats of their own that have taken over grocery stores throughout the neighborhood. Here are some of my favorites:
It’s here…Christmas!!! (Almost)
To be honest, I was very anxious for the holidays this year. It will be my first Christmas without being home with my family. Currently I’m 4,199 miles away and I feel the distance between us more than ever, down to the last mile. Luckily, I am blessed enough to have a family here in Madrid that is always making sure I feel at home and that I am getting the best of Spain.
Last week was my 22nd birthday. The day was pretty busy, as all Wednesdays are for an E-4 student at ICADE. Class started at 8am and went until 7:30pm. In the morning I was greeted with an awesome gift from Ankita with all of my favorite snacks and goodies, and then my Spanish class serenaded me with a birthday song 🙂 After classes were over, I had to run straight to the Metro to get to work. The kids were so fun to hang out with, as always, but I had trouble getting them to bed in time. Little did they know I had a dinner reservation to catch. So right after, I ran over to the Metro once again, to meet with friends for my birthday dinner at a Korean restaurant called PALILLOS DEL CARDENAL Restaurante Coreano – Japonés near the Quevedo stop, where we enjoyed some great food with great company. I felt so thankful to be surrounded by such nice, fun, smart, awesome people 🙂
Today is my last day as a 21-year-old, and I must say it’s pretty bittersweet! For some reason I feel like 21 was my last year to be foolish, careless, truly young. I know this is far from true, but still, it’s hard to let go of such a big milestone. But I did revel in it, and the following are the things I will cherish years and years from now. So here goes: A recount of my first year as a 20-something. It’s been an extraordinary one.
Oftentimes, it seems that time is flying by way too fast that I don’t even get a time to sit down and reflect on everything going on around me. So I’ve decided to start a weekly reflection in the form of Likes & Gripes. Amidst all of the stress and craziness of life, it’s important to focus on the positives, and a little venting doesn’t hurt either 😉 There will be days when likes succeed gripes and when gripes far succeed likes (don’t judge, it’s hard sometimes), and a lot of times when the same theme will both be a like and a gripe. I’ll probably use a lot of mobile photos for these posts since it’ll be more of a “day to day” thing, so please excuse the low quality of photos now & then. Here we go!
